Official Motto:

"New Zealand"

(The official motto of New Zealand is simply "New Zealand," which appears on the country's Coat of Arms. This replaced the previous motto, "Onward," in 1956 to better distinguish the nation's symbols from those of Great Britain. The motto is usually displayed at the base of the shield, below two fern leaves)

1911 Motto:

"Onward"

(In 1956, the motto was changed from "Onward" to "New Zealand" as part of a redesign of the Coat of Arms, which also removed the British lion from the crest, aiming for a more distinct national identity)

Other Representations:

"Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui"

(Translated from Māori: "be strong, be brave, be stout-hearted", while not a national motto, phrases like this are commonly used as expressions of national spirit)
